Invasion on the Farm

Did you ever get that feeling you were being watched? I was sitting here, minding my own business, working on my book. Uneasiness crept over me, as I became aware that someone was watching me through the balcony door. The heavy shadow loomed above my head at the glass. Dare I turn and face the intruder?

Hubby was working nearby. Would he come to my aid if needed? Would I be able to make my scream audible... or would I freeze?

When I turned to face the culprit, I was shocked by what I saw! A giant monster had invaded my balcony! Here he is, trying to tip-toe off behind the chair. Have you ever seen one this big? Sadie would be no match against this guy!

OK, here's one that gives a better perspective on his size...
Here's a couple of shots of him peeking at me through the window...

Just had to share.

Hubby and Sadie have been busy cleaning the barn. Together , they decided it was time to clear out some of those old scraps of wood we were saving 'just in case we need a piece this size'. It wasn't exactly a marshmallow fire, but still a nice view.

Um. YIKES! I'll bet Kate will be happy to see how big these guys get, but I feel like you: yikes!! I love Sadie, any time you have a picture of her my day is better...

Just when you needed Sadie for protection she is out running around with dad.
Be glad it wasn't a cricket. We have an invasion of them now. It is so annoying to find out one has gotten in the house in the middle of the night. It is hard to believe how much noise one cricket can make.

That one looks sort of like a Carolina Mantis, she/he is beautiful. I hope you gently escorted it to some flowers or shrubs so it could eat some of the pesky bugs.

They only look scary but are really very gentle. I have two that are hanging out on my patio and I have let both walk on my hands and arms. The mantis is a gardener's friend.

If it's a she it might be looking for a place to lay eggs. If she does you are really lucky, you will have little ones next spring to eat nasty bugs.

That was a big one, I hope she wasn't trying to steal writing tips from you. The fire is beautiful, I love a campfire, it is so comforting to me.

I usually am really afraid of all bugs, but there is something about the praying mantis and they don't bother me at all... now if that big guy on my deck, it would be a different story!
